It was the last weekend of compulsory al-fresco dining and Wine & Dine Yorkshire paid a visit to Capri At The Vine in Wakefield to see what the hugely popular restaurant had to offer.
Built within the walls of the old Vine Tree pub, the second restaurant in the Capri family was officially opened in early 2016. Proving to be a massive success Capri at the Vine has been extremely busy ever since and continues to grow month by month.
The torrential rain that day certainly did not put anyone off getting their Capri fix as the outdoor dining area was full and remained full for the majority of the night. The marquee did a brilliant job of keeping away the rain and the heaters dotted around the area kept us all nice and toasty!
Firstly, the menu at Capri at the Vine offers so much! There is definitely something for everyone and we spent ages changing our minds because we just loved the idea of so many meals. Whilst looking at the menu, we started with an Old Fashioned and Espresso Martini cocktail which went down a treat. The classic cocktails were elegantly served and crafted perfectly.
For a pre-starter we chose to share a garlic bread with tomatoes and chilli. The pizza base was thin and crispy and that little kick from the chilli’s warmed you up inside and was extremely tasty. The garlic bread was extremely moreish but we are glad we shared as we had a starter and main yet to come.
After demolishing the garlic bread our starters arrived. We went for Gamberoni Alla Diavola which consisted of sautéed king prawns with fresh chilli, garlic butter, olive oil, lemon juice and cherry tomatoes all flamed in white wine and served with homemade focaccia bread. We also had the Cocktail Di Gamberi E Astice Ai Tropici which was a cocktail of half lobster & Greenland prawns, mango & pineapple, served on a bed of julienne lettuce, with Marie Rose sauce drizzled with lemon vinaigrette. Me and my partner absolutely love seafood so were certainly not disappointed. The prawns were succulent and oozed with the flavours of garlic and chilli. Accompanied with the homemade bread, it was scrumptious, and the bread mopped up all the remaining sauce.
Capri’s take on the classic prawn cocktail was phenomenal; this was the first time I have tried lobster and I absolutely loved it (which was a good job because I ordered it for my main too!) The lobster and prawns were fresh and along with the crisp lettuce and sweet fruit, it was certainly a highlight of our visit. This dish was also the perfect starter as it cleansed your palette and washed down with another espresso martini, had me so excited to try the lobster main dish.
Speaking of the main lobster dish, the Lobster Thermidor was beautiful! The tangy cheese melted on top of the half lobster was a sensation in your mouth, along with the rich sauce, this was definitely a dish I will not forget! The presentation of the dish was immaculate, and I certainly felt very posh tucking in and certainly will be re-visiting to have the dish again! I opted to have my lobster with vegetables, but chips were also available as a side dish with the main.
My partner went for Salmone E Gamberi Al Prosecco, a baked salmon fillet with king prawns and shallots, flavoured with prosecco and served in a creamy saffron sauce. He opted for chips as his side which were perfect for mopping up the creamy saffron sauce. Again, the fish was cooked to perfection, extremely flaky and just melted in your mouth. As you can probably tell, we both love seafood and were not disappointed with the amount of seafood we tucked into!
I didn’t think I could manage a dessert after two courses and half a garlic bread, but, when I saw Tiramisu was on the menu I just had to indulge! The classic Italian dessert is one of my favourites and Capri’s was delicious. If you are a coffee lover, this is the one for you! The strong espresso and creamy concoction were a winner!
Finally, we went for another cocktail to finish off what was a perfect date night! The chocolate orange martini was out of this world! Honestly, if you ever visit this restaurant you have to try this cocktail! I think it may be the best cocktail I have ever drank.
Overall, we had a brilliant time at Capri At The Vine, the food was delicious and we will definitely be returning. A special mention to the waiters too who served us as the restaurant was very busy and they made sure we still felt very special as they did with every other visitor in the marquee.
So what are you waiting for, now we can also sit inside, get your special occasion booked in!
