Dakota Hotels launch groupwide charity cocktail for International Women’s Day

In honour of International Women’s Day on 8th March, luxury hotel group Dakota Hotels have revealed their groupwide charitable cocktail – ‘Grain ‘n’ Grind’.

Partnering with charities Girls Out Loud and Women’s Fund Scotland for the second year running, Dakota Hotels’ ‘Grain ‘n’ Grind’ blends Johnnie Walker Black Label with The King’s Ginger liqueur, vanilla syrup, lemon, and Angostura Bitters – for a sweet and complex cocktail.

Designed by Lucy Greenwood, Assistant Bar Manager at Dakota Glasgow, ‘Grain ‘n’ Grind’ celebrates the rise women in whisky – shining a spotlight on Dr Emma Walker: Johnnie Walker’s first female Master Blender in 200 years.

The cocktail was inspired by Lucy’s fond memories of sipping a dram of whisky with her grandfather, and her passion surrounding the need for representation in the beverage industry.

Lucy Greenwood commented: “To see strong, educated women in these hospitality positions is a source of inspiration – allowing us to realise these are goals achievable for all.”

She continued: “When naming the cocktail, I wanted to spotlight whisky – with the Grain – but also celebrate all women and the work they do daily – the Grind!”

Available at each of Dakota’s five luxurious locations – Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Eurocentral – ‘Grain ‘N’ Grind’ is available from 8th-31st March, with £1 from each drink sold donated to a regional, female-focussed charity.

In England, £1 from each cocktail sold will be donated to girls’ empowerment organisation Girls Out Loud – a not-for-profit dedicated to inspiring girls to reach for the stars. Girls Out Loud empower girls to channel their potential and make better life choices, and are passionate about empowering girls to find their voice.

In Scotland, Dakota’s homage to women in whisky is supporting Women’s Fund for Scotland with a £1 donation per cocktail. Women’s Fund for Scotland invest in women’s organisations, whilst promoting awareness, influencing significant change, and creating impact for the benefit of women and girls in Scotland.

Lily Shepherd-Foode, Head of Marketing & PR at Dakota Hotels, noted: “It’s a pleasure to celebrate women within hospitality and beverage this International Women’s Day. I’m also thrilled to be supporting two incredibly important female-focussed organisations that do such significant work for women and girls across the country.”

“We are delighted to have partnered with Girls Out Loud and Women’s Fund for Scotland for the second year running on our International Women’s Day cocktail. These organisations are taking impactful action, and Dakota Hotels want to show our appreciation to them both.”

‘Grain ‘N’ Grind’ is available at all Dakota locations in their respective Bars from 8th – 31st March.
