With the government restrictions in place, you may not fancy going out to your favourite restaurant or may just want the restaurant quality food but at the comfort of your own home. That is why many restaurants are now offering a takeout/delivery service so you can still get your foodie fix.
One of those restaurants is Homeslice co-founded by Mark Wogan and his brother Alan (they are sons of Sir Terry Wogan). The London pizza-by-slice restaurant group is known for its 20in pizzas and extravagant, unique toppings. The restaurant was founded in 2011 with one mobile pizza oven and now has six sites in the capital.
However, although there may not be a physical restaurant up north for us to visit, us northerners can still try one of the capital’s best pizzas through their new ‘take & bake’ option.
Using their signature dough, Homeslice prepare a 12” base which is part baked in their wood-fired ovens. Homeslice sauces and specially selected ingredients are added before wrapping it all up ready for delivery or collection. The pizzas can be kept in the fridge or freezer until you are ready to cook them in your oven and finish with some unique Homeslice ingredients that come with the pizzas.
The pizzas we chose were Mushroom, Ricotta, Pumpkin Seed & Chilli which consisted of a garlic oil base topped with mushrooms, ricotta, mozzarella, chilli flakes, pumpkin seeds, chives, and a soy truffle glaze. The pumpkin seeds and soy truffle glaze came in a separate pot which is perfect as you can add as little or as much as you like. The soy truffle glaze was amazing and enhanced the richness of the flavours, not to mention it is also extremely fancy!
We also indulged on the Salami, Rocket & Parmesan, a tomato base topped with salami then after it was cooked we added rocket and Parmesan which was also provided in a little tub. Both pizzas were super tasty and definitely had that quality you would expect from a restaurant.
The innovative flavours really stood out with the pizzas, the ingredients added intense flavour combinations that not only pleased your stomach but also looked great!
The pizzas themselves were easy to cook and only needed 10-12 minutes in the oven as they had been part-cooked from Homeslice HQ. If you are looking for something a little different to your usual supermarket pizza or greasy takeaway, Homeslice pizzas might be your next weekend treat with the family.
Also, if you are ever in London, find a Homeslice restaurant where you can devour or share 20inch perfect prepared pizzas (that’s three times bigger than your normal pizza!)
