Yorkshire’s first malt whisky distillery’s double wins at Yorkshire Whisky Festival

The team at Spirit of Yorkshire are celebrating winning two awards at the Yorkshire Whisky Festival.

Based in Hunmanby, North Yorkshire, Spirit of Yorkshire whose single malt whisky will be available next summer after maturing for three years, was awarded ‘Dram of the Day’ and ‘Stand of the Day’ at the recent festival that attracts distillers from around the world. Both awards were voted for by visitors to the festival.

Spirit of Yorkshire’s Whisky Director, Joe Clark said: “There was an amazing array of whiskies on show, so to scoop the dram of the day is a great achievement and testament to everyone at the distillery.”

Eddie Ludlow, from festival organisers The Whisky Lounge, said: “Spirit of Yorkshire’s ‘Maturing Malt 003′ was extremely popular amongst the crowd on Saturday, meaning a ‘not-quite-whisky’ won this award for the first time.”

Limited to 2000 bottles, Spirit of Yorkshire’s Maturing Malt DP003 offers a taste of the distillery’s maturing spirit and is described as ‘soft, creamy and sweet, with notes of milk chocolate, stoned fruits, pink wafer biscuits and orange zest.’ You can get your bottle for £39.95 online or from the distillery shop.

The latest in the limited edition maturing malts, DP004, is available to pre-order from 26th October, grab it quick before it’s all gone!

Spirit of Yorkshire was launched in 2016 and is a collaboration between farmer and brewer, Tom Mellor from Wold Top Brewery and business partner, David Thompson. The pair have invested significantly to follow their dream of creating a Yorkshire whisky that doesn’t simply replicate Scotch. The distillery is a true field to bottle setup and boasts some of the most impressive distilling equipment in the country, including two of the largest Forsyth pot stills operating in the UK outside of Scotland.

And this isn’t the first time the distillery has been awarded, Spirit of Yorkshire won a VisitEngland Welcome Award in the Attractions Accolades earlier this year and the Best Tourism & Hospitality Business at the Bridlington and Yorkshire Coast Chamber Awards in October 2017.

Congratulations and keep it up!
