Discover the Bay Explorer: Hotel Victoria adds a Yorkshire twist to Afternoon Tea Week

A Victorian tradition meets North Yorkshire’s heritage coastline this Afternoon Tea Week, as Hotel Victoria in Robin Hood’s Bay invites guests to discover The Bay Explorer Afternoon Tea experience.

Afternoon tea became an established social ritual during the Victorian era, making Hotel Victoria – an iconic Victorian hotel built by a local Sea Captain in 1897 and perched dramatically on the cliff top above Robin Hood’s Bay – a fitting setting for this quintessentially British afternoon tea ritual.

The limited-edition experience includes a leisurely journey aboard a charming Monaco Golf Buggy, transporting guests from Hotel Victoria into the heart of the historic fishing village. From there, visitors have an hour to explore Robin Hood’s Bay, with its narrow, cobbled streets, fascinating maritime heritage and independent shops. On returning to the hotel, guests can enjoy a traditional afternoon tea with a distinctly Yorkshire flavour, served in the AA Rosette Osborne’s Restaurant which benefits from panoramic sea views.

The menu features a delicious selection of freshly prepared finger sandwiches, savouries, homemade cakes and warm fruit scones served with strawberry preserve and Chantilly cream, accompanied by a choice of tea or coffee.

Highlights include honey roast Yorkshire ham with beer chutney, oak-smoked salmon with cream cheese and cucumber, and the Robin Hood’s Bay Fisherman’s Treat – dressed Whitby crab served with sourdough bruschetta, saffron aioli, pickled cucumber and bay bronze fennel.

Savoury treats also include a goat’s cheese and beetroot tartlet with pumpkin seed pesto, alongside chicken liver parfait and house chutney on ginger loaf.

For those with a sweet tooth, highlights include the Smuggler’s Sweet – a dark chocolate and sailor rum truffle – as well as Victoria sponge and a raspberry red velvet cupcake finished with cinnamon butter icing.

Ryan Osborne, Executive Chef at Hotel Victoria, explained: “We’ve created an afternoon tea that is inspired by the Yorkshire coast. The Robin Hood’s Bay Fisherman’s Treat and the Smuggler’s Sweet reflect the village’s history and pay tribute to the fishing and smuggling heritage. Together with traditional afternoon tea favourites, these distinctive touches create an experience that reflects the unique character of Robin Hood’s Bay.”

Priced from £25.00 per person, The Bay Explorer Afternoon Tea includes the complimentary Monaco Golf Buggy trip (subject to availability), making it an ideal way to discover one of the North Yorkshire coast’s most picturesque and characterful destinations before relaxing and indulging in the timeless ritual of afternoon tea. Afternoon tea must be pre-booked in advance.

The Bay Explorer Afternoon Tea Experience is available at Hotel Victoria during Afternoon Tea Week, 10–16 August.

Hotel Victoria is part of the expanding Loxley Collection hotel portfolio, which includes the White Hart Hotel in the historic heart of Lincoln and the Polurrian on the Lizard in Cornwall.
