The Grand Pacific, which is situated inside the Queens Hotel, opened in the summer as part of the iconic Grade II hotel’s £16million refurbishment.
The restaurant incorporates flavours from far flung lands, fused together with quintessential British classics. Think Tempura Szechuan sea bass, Asian spiced duck cottage pie, High Tea and more.
Wine & Dine Yorkshire was invited to try out the new restaurant and sample what the menu had to offer.
On arrival, the décor of the restaurant is beautiful and certainly has a Asian feel. The dark interior adds a romantic element to your visit so if definitely perfect for a date night!
We both went for a cocktail firstly and these were delicious! There are a range of fancy cocktails to try on their menu such as their Uzu Negroni, Pomegranate Mojito, Salted Caramel Espresso Martini, Grand Pornstar Martinis and many more. We opted for an Old Fashioned and Baked Banana. The Baked Banana was a highlight, Bacardi Carta Blanca, Lemon, Banana Liqueur & Syrup topped with Baked Banana Foam & Cinnamon. I would recommend getting this cocktail instead of a dessert because it is very sweet and the cream on top is very filling.
After some lovely cocktails we were ready to delve into the food. For starters we went for a Chirashi Sushi Bowl and Salmon Tataki. The sushi bowl had everything you’d expect to find in a sushi dish. The sticky rice and chucks of salmon tasted exceptional together and along with the tiger prawns and avocado, it was an extremely fresh tasting dish along with the kick from the wasabi. My favourite dish! It is worth mentioning however, this dish was massive, so it may be worth sharing if you are thinking of getting this and a main course. My partner’s salmon tataki was presented beautifully and again was huge for a starter! The balsamic glaze paired brilliantly with the salmon and the pickled vegetable salad was tasty and packed with flavour.
We were glad there was a little wait after the starters as we were already a little full. However, the good thing about the choice of meals at the Grand Pacific is all the ingredients are fresh, healthy and packed with flavour that means you are getting so much goodness inside of you! For main course, we went for Tempura Szechuan Seabass and a Rib-eye steak. The tempura fish was light and crispy and although didn’t have much of a kick of Szechuan, still oozed in flavour and was a delightful dish. My steak was cooked to perfection, and I ordered a side of oriental greens to accompany my steak. For the price, it is a little disappointing the steak just comes on its own, however, a tasty meal non-the-less and the peppercorn sauce was a star of the show!
Our glasses of wine were never empty, and the staff made a real effort to make sure our visit to The Grand Pacific was the best it could be! I particularly liked how the wine cooler was not at our table, but in the corner of the restaurant which our waiter kept an eye on and filled out glasses if it was needed. This added a real element of sophistication to our visit and certainly made us feel special.
Whilst we visited there was an array of occasions being celebrated such as birthdays, hen parties and anniversaries. It is great to see so many people already visiting the new restaurant and shows that it is the perfect place to host any special occasion!
So, if you are looking for somewhere new to try out this Autumn, please give The Grand Pacific Leeds a try, you will not be disappointed!
