The Summer Cocktail Experience 2019 Review

As the rain poured down, Saturday 8th June didn’t feel very summery. However, at The Faversham in Leeds, the cocktails were flowing, the saxophone was playing and if you closed your eyes, it really did feel like summer! The Summer Cocktail Experience did not disappoint.

If you like the finer things in life, then this event is for you.

We arrived just before 4pm and the atmosphere was buzzing. With a warm welcome from the events staff, we were handed a little booklet detailing what cocktail each bar would be offering and where they were located in the venue. These bars included The Alchemist, Revolución de Cuba, Be At One, Angelica’s and Oracle to name but a few.

The Summer Cocktail Experience was the fifth event from the Pink Gorilla team. The company have established themselves as one of the premier PR companies in Leeds and are behind some of the most exciting launches in the city.

Director Jordan Odu told Wine & Dine Yorkshire: “”Having attended various events at the Faversham, I knew this venue was perfect, especially after its amazing refurbishment.”

And Jordan was right! The Faversham was the perfect venue, with the Fav Conservatory hosting a number of bars, this was an area where you could stand at chat to your friends or visit the bar if you fancied a change from the cocktails and then the Victorian lounge was are where you could sit and relax with a bite to eat, enjoy a pimms or have you face painted with glitter!

So, how it worked was, you went to the token station and bought as many tokens as you wanted, each token was £6. Then, you take your token to whichever pop up bar you wanted. This was a great way to sample all the cocktail bars Leeds has to offer under one roof!

First I went for the ‘Lady Angela’ from Lost & Found. This was a refreshing cocktail made with Martin Millers gin, which went down very easily! My friends went for the ‘Pornstar Colada’ from Manahatta, a mix of vodka, mango, pineapple cordial, lemon juice, vanilla syrup and passion fruit sorbet. Simply summer in a glass.

By this time the rain had just stopped, so we had a look outside where the food stalls were based. Pulled pork topped chips, donuts, stone oven cooked pizzas, were just some of the delicious items offer.

After a bite to eat, we ventured back into the main room, where a saxophone player was entertaining the crowd with a selection of 90s and RnB music. The atmosphere was electric; everyone was up having a boogie, even the bar staff joined in on the fun! Of  course, it was time for more cocktails, I went for the Hibiscus Spritz featuring Whitley Neil Rhubarb & Ginger gin and topped with prosecco.

Roísín Ferguson Jones, a bartender at the Oracle stand, told Wine & Dine Yorkshire: ‘Working the Cocktail Experience was so much fun. I had worked the last event and this one was by far so much better.

‘There was such a good vibe and atmosphere in the venue. It was such a fun day.’

Overall, The Summer Cocktail Experience was a huge success and showcased the very best that Leeds has to offer by throwing one amazing party.
