The Vice York’s in-house dining experience, “Allium” announces plant-based takeover

Allium at The Vices York with Chef Luke Sanderson has announced a plant-based takeover from 4th-7th May.

Allium is a gastronomic experience to explore new and creative flavours. It’s an intimate setting of only 14 guests across two rooms, with a six-course tasting menu served at 7pm. All guests arrive at the same time, and enjoy each course in unison.

The typical menu features ingredients such as Halibut, Langoustine and Beef, but for 4 days the restaurant will be completely plant-based. The usual Allium menu is priced at £80 per head, and the Plant-Based Takeover is priced at £70 per head

As ever, the menu is undisclosed prior to guests arrival. Chef Luke said, “It’s really exciting to invite guests in and not give too much away. The first time our guests see the menu is when they sit down at the table and break the wax seal on their menu. It can be nerve-wracking of course, but it should also be exciting as you let us impress you with new flavours and ingredients. There has been a fantastic response to our usual menu, so I’m really pleased that I can now do this for our vegan, vegetarian or dairy free guests.”

Though the menu is a surprise, we can expect some of Luke Sanderson’s signature dishes including the Burnt Onion and range of handmade chocolate, with opulent fillings.

Allium opened its doors in February of this year, and has been highly praised for bringing something new to York’s dining scene. The culinary experience is incredibly intimate, and with only 14 guests, diners are used to being served by their chef directly and even have the opportunity to join the chef in his kitchen as he works.

The menu is served across two room; the Dining Room or the Wine Library. Guests who sit in the Dining Room, are treated to an open view of the kitchen where they can watch Luke Sanderson at work. Whilst the Wine Library second room holds a communal table, in the stylish surroundings of the Wine Library.

The unique dining experience is typical of what The Vices York have created. This stylish hotel features only three luxurious suites, each uniquely designed and crafted to deliver an immersive sanctuary in what was once a Victorian Police Station in Fulford, York. Guests experience an exceptional level of customer care, whilst exploring unique and innovative design concepts.

Design features include handcrafted wooden floors by Listone Giordano, rough cut marble and stone floors by Graniti Fiandre, and dazzling light installations by Davide Groppi. The bathrooms boast Aquaelite shower systems, luxe fixtures by Ex.t and crystal pieces by Antonio Lupi, which includes the amber crystal bath.

The three suites include discreet Sonance audio systems and interesting furniture, which includes a super king sized bed suspended on glass legs, and a four-poster bed made entirely of pure brass.

Co-founder Daniel Curro is a professional chef and sommelier, and has dedicated years of work and research into creating an impressive food and beverage offering.

Daniel added:- “I truly love creating food pairings and taste combinations that excite. Seeing people savour a taste, and watching their reaction to how it develops when paired with the right wine is an amazing feeling, and I’ve created a plant-based alternative for our takeover event too.”

Allium at The Vices York is open for reservations from Wednesday-Saturday, and all bookings can be made via the website at
