Run and championed by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, this shop was Britain’s first charitable food hall and all profits are reinvested back into the community. A wonderful showcase of everything great about Yorkshire.

Blacker Hall Farm Shop, Wakefield

Around 70 per cent of what is sold at this shop is made on site with award-winning, seasonal produce from its own farm as well as other local farms. There’s also a great café if you want to stay for a leisurely lunch.

Bert’s Barrow, Hillam
Austfield Farm, Austfield Lane, Hillam, Leeds, LS25 5NQ
Started up by Marlene and Ian (Bert) Thompson with a cart and an honesty box at the side of the road, they sold locally sourced, seasonal vegetables in aid of the village defibrillator. The barrows are still there today but so is a lovely shop, with over 85 per cent of produce smoked, baked, grown or made in Yorkshire.
